The farm

Whenever I drive to or from Raleigh I pass this old farm. When I just lived here it was still in use. Let me rephrase that, the land is still in use, but the home and the barns aren’t. And time has taken over it. It is getting greener by the year. You still see the typical Carolinian style though. Front porch, shutters, steps to the front door and red barn in the back.So while driving to Raleigh yesterday, I decided I would stop there on my way back.

The home is close to the road so my first images I made from next to the car. Just to make sure nobody was actually living in there. I wasn’t looking forward being greeted by a shotgun. So while making the first images my ears were on radar mode. And… I didn’t hear a thing. 🙂 So carefully I walked towards the front of the home. Still no sight of a shotgun greeting. So I relaxed, just a little.

Too bad this home is the way it is. It just had the loveliest details. Loved the front porch and the two chimneys sticky out on top of the roof were proof that is was once a warm and probably loving home.

If the home was in Italy, the climber on the sidings would have been trendy and decorative. But the home is not in Italy, in fact is has the tobacco plants all around it, so it couldn’t be more Carolinian. It just made me a bit sad to see it like this although I still showed the nice Southern details.

Who knows how many hours the owners spent on his porch in their swing chair with a glass of sweet tea listening to some country music. Sharing the stories of the day, weeks, months and years. One can only guess.

  1. Vergane glorie. Een huis met historie. Mooie plaatjes.
