Every lake belongs to the quietness desired by the swans.
I like their name. It sounds cheerful. Whooper swans. Gracious flyers. With Iceland’s beautiful landscape as their background and habitat.
But unlike the Tundra swans I’ve seen at Pocosin lakes, way more skittish. They don’t like people that much. The Tundra swans do their thing when seeing an interested human. They shy away some and get some space between. But the Whooper swans pack up and leave immediately even approached very quietly.
I liked their feet while running for take off. Big steps almost not touching the ground anymore. And big waving wide spread white wings. You can see every feather in their wing. How beautiful. It was a joy to watch them throughout Iceland. Gracious ones, those swans.
This picture isn’t perfectly sharp, but just love that it shows the three swans all with different wing movements. Neck stretched out and off they go. Just beautiful.
